God-fidence Over Fear
Embracing Boldness and Trust in His Promises
Beloved Friend,
Here we are, another week, another letter, and we’re officially in the new year. Can you believe it? I hope 2025 is already feeling like a fresh canvas, waiting for the colors God has in store for you.
Now, let me tell you about something God’s been pressing on my heart as the year kicked off and even before the previous year ended: boldness. Yep, boldness; and not just the kind that comes from hyping yourself in front of a mirror or putting on your “main character energy” playlist. I’m talking about God-fidence. That unshakable assurance that doesn’t come from how capable you are, but from how faithful God is.
Now, I’ll be honest with you: I used to be a timid person (though, some might say I still have a hidden lioness inside me, calm on the surface but fierce when needed. 😂 I don’t think that’s quite the same thing though, is it?) . The kind that would step back when it was time to speak up, hide when it was time to stand out, and avoid risks because fear had me in a chokehold. But let me tell you, last year, something shifted. It was like the Holy Spirit took me by the hand and said, “You’re mine, and I need you to walk with confidence, not in yourself, but in Me.”
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I’ve shared how timid I once was. I still come across that way sometimes, but let me tell you, there’s been a shift. God has been teaching me how to see myself through His lens. In fact, I wrote about this in a past newsletter, “Seeing Yourself Through His Lens,” where I talked about understanding your true value from God’s perspective. If you haven’t read it yet, you can click here to catch up:
As we’ve entered into a new year, I feel it in my spirit that boldness is needed for what lies ahead. God constantly calls us to “be bold” and “do not fear.” You’ll find that throughout scripture, from Abraham to Moses, and even in the lives of people like Mary and the disciples. Fear has no place where faith is thriving. And trust me, there will be moments this year where the enemy will try to make you shrink back, but God is reminding you today: You are called to walk boldly.
If your goals for the new year seem far-fetched, trust me, I get it. There’s always that moment of doubt when we look at what God has placed in our hearts, wondering how in the world it’s all going to work out. But hear this: God has willed those dreams and aspirations in your heart, and He will give you the strength and wisdom to bring them to fruition. You don’t have to be afraid of the doors He’s opening for you, whether it’s a new opportunity, relationship, or responsibility. Walk into those doors with God-fidence, knowing that the same God who started the work in you is faithful to complete it.
What is God-fidence, you ask? It’s a deep-rooted assurance in who God is, in His promises, and His power to work in and through us. It’s not about relying on our own abilities, but about trusting that God is able, and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Jesus said, “I am the Vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me, and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5, NIV). This isn’t about pride, friend. Pride comes when we forget that it is God working through us. It’s easy to get caught up in thinking we’re the ones doing all the work, but without God, none of it would be possible.
Let me put it plainly: Pride will trip you up faster than your shoelaces ever could. Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” God-confidence, on the other hand, keeps you rooted. It’s not about overhyping yourself; it’s about standing tall because you know who’s holding you up.
I won’t pretend I’ve mastered this. God still catches me slipping all the time. I’ll be doubting myself, second-guessing, or trying to figure out how I can “earn” what He’s freely given. Then He reminds me: You’re not just a girl. You’re more than that. I’m shaping you into an incredible wonder.
So how do we keep this God-fidence strong in our lives?
It starts with staying connected to God; through His Word, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. Let the truth of who you are in Him renew your mind daily. When you start to doubt, remember His promises. Reflect on past victories. Remember, God’s Word is a lamp to your feet (Psalm 119:105). Prayer is your direct line to the Father (Philippians 4:6), and community reminds you that you’re not alone in this journey (Hebrews 10:24-25).
One thing I’ve learned is that God does not want us to walk through life with low self-esteem. He doesn’t want us to shrink back because we don’t feel worthy. God has already declared that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). Our identity is found in Him, and in Him alone. Low self-esteem often creeps in when we forget who we are in Christ. But God wants us to stand tall, not in our own strength, but in His.
While God desires for us to have a healthy view of ourselves, the real focus is on recognizing our value and identity in Him. When we embrace His truth, we are lifted out of the trap of low self-esteem and into a place of confidence, peace, and purpose. In His love, we find all we need to move forward boldly, not just for ourselves, but to bless those around us as well.
If you’ve not yet given your life to Christ, or perhaps you’ve fallen along the way, I want to invite you to come into His arms of love and grace. Without Him, where does your confidence come from? The Word says in James 1:17 that, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” How can we walk in boldness if we do not recognize the One who gives us that strength and confidence?
Scripture reminds us in Philippians 4:13 that, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Without Him, we are but empty vessels.
So if you are ready to receive true confidence, I urge you to surrender your heart to Him today. Pray this prayer:
Lord Jesus, I recognize that without You, I can do nothing. I come before You today, asking You to be the Lord and Savior of my life. I repent for trying to do things on my own and for relying on anything other than You.
I believe that You died for my sins and that You rose again, offering me a new life in You. I surrender my heart to You and ask You to fill me with Your Holy Spirit, that I may walk in the boldness and confidence that comes from knowing I am Your child.
Thank You for loving me and for giving me the strength to face whatever lies ahead. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
So, my friend, let’s step into this new year with our heads held high, knowing we are who God says we are. Let’s walk boldly into everything He’s calling us to, trusting that He will provide all we need to succeed.
As we embrace God-fidence, let’s keep in mind that God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips the called. Whatever He’s calling you to, He’s already placed everything you need inside you. You are more than capable, because He is with you.
With thoughts of kindness,
ABBA’s Shofar
