God’s Perfect Timing: Why He Doesn’t Always Give It to Us All at Once
When Life Feels Like a Slow Drip, But God is Really Pouring Out the Best for You
Beloved friend,
Ever found yourself wishing that God had a fast-forward button? I sure have! This week, as I was flipping through my Bible, I stumbled upon a passage that made me smile—Exodus 23:29-30. It’s where God promises to drive out Israel’s enemies little by little, not all at once, because He knows they aren’t ready to handle everything at once. Sound familiar?
We’ve all been there, wondering why things aren’t happening as quickly as we’d like. Maybe you’re praying for that breakthrough, that dream job, or just for life to stop feeling like one big waiting room. I get it—waiting is tough! But here’s the thing: God isn’t being slow; He’s being careful.
Think of it like this—God’s giving you your blessings bit by bit. He’s mindful of what you can handle right now. If He gave you everything at once, you’d be scrambling to keep up, and, let’s be honest, some things might even slip through your fingers! It’s like trying to fit all your groceries in a small bag or carry all your market bags in one trip; you know how something always ends up falling out or spilling over.
The Israelites learned this firsthand. If God had handed over the whole Promised Land in one go, they’d have been overwhelmed—too much space, too many responsibilities, and wild animals moving in faster than they could handle. So, God, in His infinite wisdom, decided to bless them piece by piece, at a pace they could manage.
But don’t just take my word for it. The Bible is full of examples where God’s timing seemed slow to the people involved, but it was actually perfect. Remember Joseph? He had dreams of greatness, but it took years—years that included betrayal, slavery, and prison—before those dreams became reality (Genesis 37:5-11; 41:46). It wasn’t that God had forgotten about Joseph; He was preparing him for the exact moment when he would rise to power and save nations (Genesis 50:20).
Or consider David, who was anointed king as a young man but spent years running for his life before he finally took the throne (1 Samuel 16:13; 2 Samuel 5:4). During that time, God was shaping David’s character, teaching him to rely fully on God’s strength, and preparing him to lead Israel with wisdom and courage.
These stories remind us that God’s timing is not like ours. 2 Peter 3:8-9 says, “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” God sees the bigger picture, and His delays are often His way of doing a deeper work in us.
So, friends, the next time you feel like life is moving at a snail’s pace, remember this: God’s timing is perfect, even when it feels slow. He’s preparing you, growing your capacity, and giving you blessings bit by bit so that when the time comes, you’ll be able to handle it all with grace.
Even in the waiting, God is working. Romans 8:28 assures us that “in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.” That means every moment of waiting, every season of delay, is a part of God’s perfect plan to bring about good in your life.
And let’s not forget Isaiah 40:31, which promises, “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” Waiting on God isn’t passive; it’s a time of renewing, strengthening, and preparing for the next step.
So, hang in there, and trust the process. God’s got this, and He’s got you too. Your blessing is on the way, coming at just the right time, in just the right measure.
With thoughts of kindness,
