Keep the Fire Burning
Why We Can’t Afford to Be Lukewarm in Our Faith
Beloved Friend,
Let’s chat about this thing called the “lukewarm life.” You know, the kind where we’re all-in for God one day and halfhearted the next. It’s like a faith journey powered by one of those “I better pass my neighbor” generators. You know the type—they start with a roar, run for a bit, then suddenly conk out. And what do we do? We go over, give it a nudge or smack, get it running again…until it dies down at the next interval. It’s inconsistent and unreliable, and honestly, it’s exhausting.
God’s heart for us is way different. He wants us to be consistent, steady, and fired up in our pursuit of Him. Revelation 3:16 puts it clearly: He says if we’re lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, He will “spew us out.” That’s intense, but it shows just how seriously He takes our commitment. God didn’t call us to be “waka pass” extras in this world, strolling through without purpose or impact. No, we’re called to have real purpose, to be part of something much greater.
Let’s be honest, it’s easy to get tired along the way. We might start strong, but then life happens, and the fire can start to fizzle. We notice we’re not praying like we used to, not as fired up for His promises as we once were. But Jesus reminds us in Luke 9:62, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” This journey is a full-on commitment. It’s not a part-time thing.
And this commitment is about more than prayer alone. It’s about standing boldly for what’s right, too. There’s no playing it safe in God’s kingdom. We can’t stay silent just because we don’t want to ruffle feathers or lose “favors” from people around us. This life with God isn’t about walking the middle line; it’s about standing up and standing out for Him, no matter the cost.
And why all this effort? Because we’re in a battle. Our faith isn’t a stroll in the park; it’s a mission. God’s put us here to see His kingdom come, both in our own lives and on this earth. We are soldiers on duty, not spectators. Our choices, our prayers, our stand for Him; it all matters deeply.
So let’s ask God to help us stay strong, to keep the fire burning. To go beyond a start-and-stop faith. He’s calling us to be steady, bold, and fully committed. No more “I better pass my neighbor” generator faith; let’s go all in.
With thoughts of kindness,
ABBA’s Shofar
