Positive Vibes Only? No, Righteous Expectations Only
Why negativity isn’t realism and doubt isn’t protection
Beloved Friend,
Let me just say this plainly. Negativity is not wisdom, and expecting the worst is not a strategy.
I know the world tries to package it as a way of shielding your heart. “If I don’t expect anything, I won’t be disappointed.” “If I think the worst, then at least I’ll be prepared.” But let’s call it what it is. A lie from the enemy. A lie designed to derail your faith, pollute your thoughts, and repel the very things God wants to send your way.
The Word of God says “the expectation of the righteous shall not be cut short” (Proverbs 23:18). So why do we, as children of God, let fear whisper a different narrative? Why do we let dark thoughts pose as shields?
“Take every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5). That’s not just good advice. It’s a call to active resistance against every idea that opposes the truth of God’s Word.
Job said, “What I feared has come upon me” (Job 3:25). Fear is not neutral. It is not protection. It can open the door to what God never intended for you. Fear breeds torment, but perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). We were not made to live with low expectations. We were made to live with hope, anchored in the One who never fails.
Let’s be honest. When you expect the worst and something good happens, what you feel is usually relief, not genuine gratitude. But when you trust God fully and He comes through, maybe in ways beyond your imagination, that joy hits different. There’s a deeper praise that flows when your heart stayed expectant and God showed Himself faithful.
This isn’t to say that you won’t face disappointments sometimes. But even then, we trust that God is working all things together for good (Romans 8:28). That’s not blind hope. That’s our confidence in a God who sees the end from the beginning.
Don’t let negativity become your normal. Guard your mind. Speak life. Nurture hope. Expect God’s goodness, not because life is predictable, but because God is faithful.
Choose to believe.
Choose to expect.
Choose to silence the voice of fear and make room for the whisper of faith.
With thoughts of kindness,
