The Love That Never Lets Go
Basking in the Beauty of God’s Unshakeable Love
Beloved Friend,
This week, during my quiet time, I found myself deeply reflecting on something we often take for granted: the incredible, unwavering love of God. We talk about it, sing about it, and even thank Him for it, but how often do we truly sit and appreciate just how profound and transformative His love really is?
God’s love is the foundation of everything we are and everything we do. It’s a love that never grows tired, never gives up, and never runs out (Lamentations 3:22-23). Think about that—there’s no expiration date on His love for you. It doesn’t matter how many times we’ve messed up or how far we think we’ve strayed. His love reaches us wherever we are, even in the deepest pits of despair. David said it best: "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there" (Psalm 139:7-8).
God’s love isn’t just a feeling; it’s a knowing. It’s more than the times we feel overwhelmed by His presence during worship or when we’re comforted in our darkest moments. His love is a constant, an unchanging reality grounded in His word. He tells us clearly: "I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you"(Jeremiah 31:3). Even when we don’t feel it, we can rest assured in the truth that God’s love for us is steadfast and immovable.
Imagine this: You have a partner who’s been unfaithful, over and over again. You tell them, "Just admit your mistakes, change your ways, and I’ll take you back every time." Sounds like a setup for heartbreak, right? Yet, this is exactly what God does for us. When we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us (1 John 1:9). No matter how many times we fall, He’s there, ready to wipe the slate clean, as if our offenses never existed. He assures us in Isaiah 1:18, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
Can you imagine doing that for someone? Even if we manage to forgive, how easily are we reminded of the hurt? But God’s forgiveness isn’t like ours. His love doesn’t just forgive; it forgets. When those memories of past wrongdoings come creeping back, it’s not Him bringing them up—it’s the accuser, trying to steal our joy. But the truth is, nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39). Absolutely nothing.
This love is something I want to consciously bask in. I encourage you to do the same. No guilt in life, no fear in death can ever tear us away from this love, as the hymn so beautifully puts it. And here’s the most remarkable part: He loves us even when we find it hard to love ourselves.
Here’s another thing worth noting: God’s love is a perfect love that casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of not being enough—these things don’t stand a chance when we’re rooted in the love of God. He loves us, not because we’re perfect, but because He is. His love drives out fear, reminding us that we are safe in Him, no matter what life throws our way.
Friend, if you’re feeling stuck, like you’re too far gone, I want to remind you of this simple truth: You’re never too far for God’s love to reach. In fact, it’s in our filthiness that we should run to Him, not away from Him. A dirty child shouldn’t hide from their parent; they should come closer to be cleansed. His love is so much more than we can imagine—it’s not a love that merely overlooks our faults; it’s a love that makes us whole.
This love is our anchor, our refuge, and our strength. It’s the love that sustains us when everything else falls apart. It’s the love that never lets go, no matter how tightly we try to hold onto our guilt or shame. God’s love says, “You are mine, and nothing can change that.”
So, today, let’s take some time to truly appreciate this love. Let’s not be casual about it. Let’s celebrate it, embrace it, and, if you need it, freely access it. His arms are always open, and His love is always enough.
A Simple Prayer:
Father, I come before You with a grateful heart, acknowledging the depth of Your love for me. Thank You for loving me even when I think of myself as difficult to love. Thank You for never giving up on me, no matter how many times I fall. Today, I choose to rest in Your love, to embrace it, and to let it transform me. For anyone feeling lost or far from You, I pray that they would experience the fullness of Your love, knowing that they are never too far gone to be embraced by Your grace. Help me to remember that Your love is not just a feeling but a knowing, grounded in the truth of Your Word. I am grateful, Lord, and I praise You for the unshakeable love that sustains. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
