The Unfathomable Goodness of God
Trusting His Plans Even When They Seem Unclear
Beloved friend,
Sometimes, it’s hard to see the goodness of God in the midst of our struggles and uncertainties. We might wonder why certain things happen and why life takes unexpected turns. But let’s take a step back and look at the bigger picture—God's picture.
Take the Israelites, for example. When they left Egypt, God led them away from the shortest route to the Promised Land to avoid conflict with the Philistines. Instead, they wandered in the desert for 40 years. At first glance, it seemed like a punishment, a never-ending journey. But God's wisdom was at work. He kept them from war, protecting them from battles they weren’t ready to face.
During those 40 years, despite their constant murmuring and complaints, God provided for their every need. Manna from heaven, water from rocks—He sustained them every single day. Think about it, friends. How many of us could have someone depend on us for even basic needs for a year, let alone 40? And yet, God did it faithfully, without fail, despite their ingratitude.
Let’s consider other examples. Joseph, sold into slavery by his brothers, endured years of hardship and imprisonment. Yet, in the end, he rose to a position of power in Egypt, saving his family and countless others from famine. What seemed like misfortune was God’s way of positioning Joseph for greatness.
Or think of Jesus, who faced rejection, suffering, and death on the cross. It appeared as though evil had triumphed. But through His resurrection, the ultimate good was accomplished—salvation for all humanity.
Friend, we can never be at a disadvantage because our God doesn’t just try to be good; He is Goodness itself. There’s no evil in Him, and His plans for us are always for our best. Even when we can’t see it, we can trust that His goodness is at work in our lives.
So, in moments of doubt, let’s remind ourselves of God’s unwavering faithfulness. He is the same God who provided for the Israelites, elevated Joseph, and brought salvation through Jesus. He is our God, and His goodness never fails.
